Patent drafting is hard. It demands both technical fluency and legal precision — but that’s only part of it.
There are tight deadlines, shifting disclosures, demanding clients, and constant pressure to reduce costs. Even for the most seasoned professionals, a single application can take 20+ hours to get right, and that’s before reviews and revisions.
So when AI patent drafting tools started flooding the legal space, we paid attention. But we soon realized that most were built by people who hadn’t spent a single day drafting a real patent.
That’s why we built Patentext: a drafting engine rooted in real experience, designed to support the way patent professionals actually work.
The result? More drafts done, fewer redlines, and better strategic alignment — whether you’re in-house, at a boutique firm, or leading a patent group at scale.
Alex is a patent agent with 10+ years of experience drafting complex applications for startups and global tech companies alike.
After graduating from Harvey Mudd College, he wanted to work with cutting-edge technology and help bring real ideas to life. So, he spent several years at Fenwick & West, then joined a boutique patent agency, where he specialized in deep tech. In 2023, he launched his own climate tech patent agency.
As his practice grew, the workload did too. And despite his experience, drafting was still slow, manual, and mentally exhausting. So he built a framework based on how he actually thought through and structured patent applications — and that framework became the foundation of Patentext.
Marcus is a second-time founder and product-minded engineer who’s built more than ten full-stack apps from scratch.
When he saw Alex’s framework, he realized it could be transformed into something much bigger: a system LLMs could actually use to think like a practitioner. Marcus turned that idea into Patentext’s engine, translating years of patent expertise into a drafting method that scales.
Since graduating from Yale Law School, Bob has been a leading voice in patent law, with 30+ years of experience drafting, prosecuting, and evaluating patents.
He spent nearly two decades as a partner at Fenwick & West, writing over 300 applications and reviewing thousands more. As a patent pool evaluator, he’s assessed over 3,000 patents and shaped IP strategy at the highest levels.
Now, he’s helping us do something rare: build a tool that meets the standards of even the most seasoned practitioners.
This means less time slogging through drafts and more time doing the parts that matter: understanding cutting-edge inventions, crafting strong claims, and helping inventors build high-value patent portfolios.
We believe better tools don’t just make the work faster. They make it more fulfilling.
Patentext launched in early March and is already in daily use by top IP boutiques, global firms, and in-house teams.
